Buddhist monk, author and peace activist Thich Nhat Hanh will guide a large-scale public meditation in London’s Trafalgar Square on Saturday 31 March

A flash mob meditation in London

The event, titled Sit in Peace, is part of a visit to the UK by the Zen master between 29 March and 10 April 2012, which includes a talk in London and a conference in Nottingham.

Sit in Peace is being organised by Wake Up London, a group of young practitioners of the mindfulness meditation approach taught by Thich Nhat Hanh, who are becoming well-known for organising meditation ‘flash mobs’ in central London each month.

The event is free, takes place between 2.30 and 4.30pm, and is open to people of all ages and spiritual paths, whether experienced meditators or not. Thousands are expected to attend, said organisers.

“Sit in Peace is an opportunity for families and friends to generate peace together through meditation and stillness,” said Elina Pen, a spokesperson for Wake Up London. “We want to offer people a chance to stop, relax, and enjoy their lives.”

Wake Up London have released a music album called Peace Sounds, which features tracks recorded by members of the group and is being sold to raise money for Sit in Peace.
